I’m Hannah, the founder and one-woman-business that is Scout & Rae.
Scout & Rae started in 2016 in my adopted hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne. I graduated in art in 2005 and started sewing a few years later while working full time as an arts producer. Like a lot of people, I was frustrated with the quality, fit and ethical traceability of the clothes I was buying on the high street. I was also longing for a creative output so I thought I’d try out making my own clothes and my passion for the craft grew from there.
At Scout & Rae I design and make simple, timeless clothes, using natural and sustainable fabrics. I try to use plant-based fabrics as much as possible and am always on the lookout for sustainable plant-based alternatives to leather and wool.
Every order is designed, cut and handmade by me in my studio at The Newbridge Project, an artist led space that offers affordable studios to artists and makers in the North East.
I often get asked where the name Scout & Rae comes from; it is inspired by my creative, funny, chatty, much-better-at-computer games-than-me twin nieces. The future looks a lot brighter with them in it.
